Perths 4WD Playground!

Wilbinga

Looking to take your 4WD for a drive on the beach somewhere close to Perth? Wilbinga is roughly 80kms from Perth with vehicle access to a number of stunning beaches. The trip notes provided below take you from Wilbinga to Seabird. The tracks are not extreme however you will need to air down your tyres. The track is suitable for beginners and ideal as a day trip (as long as you start early!) View this page on desktop for best results.

Expect to cover just over 200kms if your starting and returning to Perth.

The majority of this track is on sand tracks with the occasional steep sand dunes (A sand flag is recommended) as well as rocky sections of track and stunning low lying bushland.

Be vigilant and keep an eye out for off road vehicles and people at all times.

If you intend on accessing the beaches take extreme care as the sand can be extremely soft, it pays to walk the track first if in doubt and always drive to the conditions and your skill level.

*Don't be a grub, take all your rubbish out with you and for bonus points take a bag of rubbish out with you!

Trip Notes:

Wpt1: Begin the trip at the 10th Light Horse Hertigate Trail. Continue North on Indian Ocean Drive for 31kms.

Wpt2: Turn left onto dirt track (Wilbinga Rd.) Slow down and indicate well before turning here, the track in not obvious and you will need to drive slowing to access the track.

Wpt3: Pull into clearing and air down your tyres to your desired pressure and attach a sand flag if you have one. Continue heading west on Wilbinga rd, the track in is fairly rutted however maintain a safe speed and keep to the left when the track forks to avoid oncoming traffic.

Wpt4: Turn right to leave Wilbinga Rd and head a few hundred metres to Wpt5.

Wpt5: Turn left and head towards sand dunes.

Wpt6: If you and your 4WD are up for it these dunes are a lot of fun to climb, drive safely and keep an eye out for vehicles and people. Once you are finished here or if sand dunes aren't your thing return to Wpt4 and continue on the left hand track (not the track you came in on) and follow the tracks heading north. There are many alternative tracks to your left and right, keep on the main track however tracks along here either end up rejoining or head to the beach. If you take a track to the beach walk the track before attempting to drive it and pay attention to the tide and ensure you are self sufficient to recover your vehicle should you get bogged!

Wpt7: Take the right hand track to head north east and away from the coast.

Wpt8: T-Junction, turn right to head east following fence line. The scenery changes to coastal bushland with great views of low lying hills, this is a great spot to film drone footage if you have one (don't fly your drone if you see any eagles!) or to simply stop to take footage of your 4wd in its natural environment, just be sure to keep and eye out for traffic and only stop where safe.

Wpt9: Take the track on the left hand side to head North and follow the fence line.

Wpt10: Take the right hand track and head east

Wpt11: The track opens up to a clearing, re-inflate your tyres to highway pressure here and continue along the track until you hit the blacktop at Wpt12.

Wpt12: Indian ocean drive, make sure your out of 4wd gears and turn left to head North taking care for oncoming traffic. If you want to call the trip short turn right to head back to Perth here.

Wpt13: Turn left onto Guilderton road.

Wpt14: Bare left to stay on Guilderton road.

Wpt15: Road on Right hand side, continue straight. The road turns to a sand track, continue onto Wpt16.

Wpt16: Stop here to reduce tyre pressures and turn right at T-Junction.

Wpt17: Lighthouse on your right hand side, continue straight. (This is a great spot for drone footage!) There are a maze of tracks up ahead, it doesn't matter which one you take as long as you are heading north.

Wpt18: Track on your left, keep straight on.

Wpt19: Another track on your left, keep straight on. Your begin heading north east for a while here.

Wpt20: Turn left at the T-Junction and follow the fence line.

Wpt2: Turn onto the left hand track. You will now be heading in west.

Wpt22: Small area with room for a few vehicles to park, this is a good spot for some photography.

Wpt23: Shipping beacon on your left, continue on track, you'l now be heading east.

Wpt24: Track on your right, continue on the main track taking you left and heading in a north westerly direction.

Wpt25: The sand track ends here, a small culdesac is on your left hand side, park here and reinflate your tyres to highway pressure and continue straight on McCormick St through the seaside town of Seabird.

Wpt26: Turn right onto Indian Ocean drive to head back to Perth or left to head north. This is the end of the trip!
